Keep Walking!

In the early part of May, I went to the foot doctor because I had a constant, sharp pain on my bottom right foot. It was determined that I had a bone spur. In addition to the bone spur, I had a couple of plantar warts on the bottom of my foot. The podiatrist treated the warts with a high-powered acid to help destroy the growths. However, in doing so, it greatly affected my walk.

As the acid started softening the tissue and exterminating the warts, it became very painful to walk. With each step that I took, a tremendous amount of pain would shoot from my foot and resonate throughout my entire body. My regular walk slowed down tremendously, I began to visibly limp, and each step was taken with great caution and uncertainty. Because of the intense pain, I began to walk differently from before.

I have learned that certain events in life can cause our spiritual walk to change. For some, when some sort of pain (emotional, spiritual, or physical pain) surfaces, their spiritual walk is affected. Each spiritual step becomes a struggle and challenge because of the pain they are experiencing. Although heartbreaking, some abandon their spiritual walk altogether when facing such adversity.

Let me take a m
oment and encourage you if you are facing or someone that you know is facing such a dilemma. Here is the solution – KEEP WALKING! The Great Physician, Jesus Christ, has a miraculous way of healing the pain. It may take time, but the reward will be genuinely worth it. You see, when you stop walking, you become stagnate, lonely, and you never get anywhere. Soon depression can set in and your hope is crushed.

Every medical profession that I know emphatically tells me that walking is a healthy and productive exercise. In addition, every place that I read in Scripture, the Word of God tells me that spiritual walking is necessary for the health of a believer. The Bible says a lot about how we should walk spiritually. Below, I have listed some verses to help you develop a healthy walk with Christ.

Galatians 5:16So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Ephesians 5:8 – For you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light.
2 Corinthians 5:7 – For we walk by faith, not by sight.
Ephesians 5:2 – And walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
1 John 2:6 – The one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked.
Ephesians 5:15-16 – Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil.
Galatians 5:25 – If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.
Colossians 1:10 – So that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, …

So, let us put on our spiritual walking shoes and get walking.
