There is one Biblical teaching that can quickly stir the emotions of a Christian.  This particular subject matter can make some feel uneasy and uncomfortable when talking about it.  In certain settings, this topic is avoided all together.  Can you guess what it is?  It is TITHING.

Let me assure you, tithing is not a bad word.  As a matter of fact, tithing is way that we honor God.
Tithing is a portion of our blessings that we return to Him.  Tithing is an action that can bring joy to the heart of our Savior.
The Bible tells us in 2 Corinthians 9:7, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Yes, tithing is often centered around financial giving, but our giving goes way beyond money.  Our gifts also include the giving of our time, our talents, and our abilities.  So, the best way to focus on all these important areas of faithful giving, is to start with prayer.  Below is an encouraging prayer that will help center your life on how to be a cheerful giver.

My prayer is that you open my eyes to what is important to you.  Lord, you have given so graciously to me and for that I am forever grateful.  In return, my prayer is that I will also be faithful in giving.
This commitment will involve the giving of my time so that it will please your heart, it will involve the giving of my talents and abilities to help show the love of Christ to others, and yes, it will involve the giving of my financial resources to further your Kingdom.  I pray this in Christ’s name
